Learning with a Pick

First thing’s first - not everyone needs to start off playing with a pick.

When do you want to use a pick? If you play an acoustic or electric guitar, you should have a pick from the beginning. The strings for these guitars are made of steel and will hurt your fingers if you play without a pick.

If you have a classical guitar, the strings are made of nylon. Nylon is softer so you don’t need a pick to play a classical guitar. You can use a pick for these though if later on you decide you’d like to.
