Enable microphone access for Simply Piano

Help and advice for when the app cannot hear your piano/keyboard - enabling microphone access

If the app can't hear you play at all, don't worry. Let's turn on all the correct settings so you can begin getting feedback from Simply Piano 💪


🍏 iOS:

👉 Enable Microphone Permissions

  1. Open your device's Settings app

  2. Tap Privacy & Security

  3. Tap Microphone

  4. Toggle Simply Piano microphone access to ON

  5. Alternatively, navigate to Settings > Apps > Simply Piano and toggle the microphone switch to ON

⚠️ Don't see these settings at all? This could be related to parental controls. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > make sure Simply Piano has access allowed for Microphone.

👉 Turn Sound Recognition On

  1. Open your device's Settings app

  2. Tap Accessibility

  3. Toggle Sound Recognition to ON


🤖 Android:

👉 Enable System-Level Microphone Permission

  1. Open Settings

  2. Tap Security & Privacy

  3. Tap Additional Privacy Controls

  4. Toggle on microphone access

👉 Grant App-Specific Microphone Permission

  1. Open Settings

  2. Tap Apps

  3. Tap Simply Piano

  4. Tap Permissions

  5. Tap Microphone and make sure permission is set to Allowed


Additional Troubleshooting Tips

  1. Reinstall the App

    • Delete Simply Piano, restart your device, and reinstall the app. When reopening, grant microphone permissions when prompted.

  2. Update Your Device and App

    • Ensure your device's operating system and Simply Piano are up to date.

  3. Restart Your Device

    • Restarting can resolve temporary conflicts with other apps using the microphone.

  4. Check for Physical Obstructions

    • Ensure the microphone is not covered by stickers, cases, or debris.


Simply Piano-Specific Tips

  • Bluetooth Interference:

    • Turn off Bluetooth to prevent interference with the microphone.

  • Switching Courses:

    • If you're in a "touch" course, switch to an instrument-based course to enable microphone use.
