Whether you're just starting your guitar journey, brushing up, or polishing your skills, having an effective practice routine is key to meeting your goals. We'd like to share some tips to help you get the most out of your practice time.
Consistency is key ๐
We all learned lots of things in school we don't remember because we don't continue to use them. Find a routine that works for you that you can stick to whether it's 4 times a week 30 mins each, 3 times a week for 20 mins, a few minutes every day, etc. It's ok when life gets in the way. If you miss one, just keep going.
We advise against practicing for long stretches (2 hours +) unless you are a more experienced piano learner as you're likely to get worn out.
โSet clear, measurable goals for yourself ๐
Keep long-term and short-term goals in mind for each practice session, whether itโs to repeat a hard song 5 times, complete a specific lesson, or to maintain focus for a set amount of time. Within these, balance variety with repetition so you broaden your skills and develop expertise. Make sure the goal is reasonable for the time you have and allow yourself to revise your goals when needed.
Keep going if you get stuck ๐ช
Rewind and repeat a section. Slow down the tempo of songs in the Song Library. Try playing with only one hand at a time (you can turn off practice mode in the app menu). Let yourself switch to another song or piece if you're frustrated and come back to it later.
Be patient with yourself ๐ค
No one learns guitar in a day or two, everyone has learning ups and downs, and every learner is different. Be proud of what you accomplish, including the bumps and frustrations. They are a part of your continual success.
